Taking on Run the Month? We're here to help. Below you’ll find ideas, hints, tips, downloads, and words of advice from our super running supporter, Lee, who has been there and got his Prostate Cancer UK t-shirt...

  1. Get a plan in place early Organise when you’re going to run, and think about your goal - do you plan to do 12.5 miles a week or sprint the distance? If you’re going to run on a weekend, get your route planned, sort out some snacks and let your friends and family know in case they can come and cheer you on from the pavement.

  2. Set up your online fundraising page Make it as easy as possible for people to give you money by creating an online fundraising page. Once you've created your page follow our guide to add a picture and update your story to let everyone know why you’re taking on Run the Month.

  3. Spread the word Your friends and family will be so proud of you taking this challenge on, as long as they know it's happening…share your running plans on your social media pages, wear one of our branded tops to spread awareness and shout it from the rooftops - you’re doing something incredible! You can create your own poster here too!

Local papers are always looking for a great story, so let them know what you’re up to. You can also contact Prostate Cancer UK for a template press release and ongoing support.

  4. Kickstart your fundraising Self-donate to your own page to get the pounds rolling in. Dipping into your wallet and donating to yourself isn’t cheating – it’s the best way to reach your fundraising target. Fundraisers who donate to their own page raise on average 42 per cent more! Your friends and family will soon follow suit. You can also download a sponsorship form to keep track of any offline donations.

  5. Ask the boss! Find out if your employer offers matched giving or would like to give a donation. Remember to add your donation page link to your email signature, see if you can publicise your story on your intranet to help generate sponsorship.

  6. Thank your sponsors It’s up to you how you want to do this, some people send emails, some send cards, whatever works for you. The most important thing is that you make sure you take the time to thank the people that donated to your cause - they’re doing an amazing thing!

One in eight men will get prostate cancer. That’s one of our dads, partners, brothers, sons, grandads, uncles and mates. Your fundraising will help fund lifesaving research to help beat this deadly disease.
